Shimmy, 1994-2010
Shimmy died yesterday. She had been suffering from heart disease, kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, and diabetes. Words can't begin to convey how I feel.May you have happiness and the causes of happiness, Shimmy. May you be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. May you never be parted from sorrowless bliss. May you abide in equanimity, free from bias, attachment, and hatred.

I'm sorry to hear about this, Tony. Now that there are no windows between Shimmy and her foes, I'm sure she's out there tracking down birds, and I bet they almost never get away. Best wishes . . .

Mr. Trigilio, I arrived at your blog the way others did, through the publication in "Writers and Their Notebooks." I enjoyed your essay and the way Shimmy and your writing developed together. I am so sorry to read that Shimmy passed away. I live in Chicago, too, and I am familiar with your other work. I admire you and your teaching. Thank you for leaving Shimmy's blog up even though he has left his earthly body.
